ICAD #60: Mixed Media Process

Hello everyone!  Today, I wanted to share my process in creating my Index Card A Day Card #60 out of 61!  Yes, the 61 Day challenge will end tomorrow.  So let’s begin: First, I gathered some paper which I cut down to the size of an Index Card (3×5), some decoupage glue and some left over ends from a spiral bound drawing pad.

After applying gesso to my card and letting that dry, I applied the decoupage glue and my spiral bound ends to the index card. Here, I used the decoupage glue generously.

Next, I cut the excess spiral bound ends off and decided I would use the neon green paint as my base paint.

After using the neon green paint, I used my Tim Holtz stencil with the pink acrylic paint. I wanted the print to stand out, so I used the Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarellle Watercolor Pencil in Black to outline the print. While deciding what to do next, I inked the edges of the card with my Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen Big Brush in Black.

Next, I thought it would be fun to add a little paint spackle with the Dylusions Ink Spray.

To be honest, when I got to this point, I felt like the card could possibly stand on its own…..so I used my distress ink by Tim Holtz to ink my edges more and also to to ink the top portion of the card.

But then, this happened…I just couldn’t help myself. I saw this white butterfly (from Michael’s $1.50 spot) sitting on the top of my stash and I just had to add it. I also thought this dandelion stamp would go well with it.

Here is a close up of the butterfly and the stamp.

Lastly, I was able to finish this quote off with the perfect quote for this second to last ICAD.  I was very happy with the outcome.

I hope you all were able to be inspired by this tutorial. Please feel feel to leave a comment below and follow me on my Instagram. 😊

Until next time, Happy Crafting!

ICAD Progress

Hello everyone!

I know it’s been a while since I posted my progress on the Index-Card-A-Day 61 Day Challenge. So I just wanted to share my progress. So far, with this being my first year participating, it has been great. I feel like I have been able to let go of some of my fears and insecurities when it comes to art…and that in itself is something for me to celebrate!  I felt that on the days I fell behind, it was easy for me to catch up and get into the “zone” of my craft. This challenge has opened up my ability to be open and not scared to try out new things. With mixed media, I feel as though I’m ready to truly explore and pick a style that is all my own.

Below you will find my ICADs from June 24-July 24.

Days 24-30

Days 31-37

  Days 38-44

   Days 45-49

  Days 50-54

I hope you all enjoyed my ICADs and are inspired to give this challenge a try. And if you did participate, please add your link to the comments section so I can check out your work be inspired as well.  To find out more about Index Card A Day, click here

Planner Layout: July 27-August 2, 2015

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying your day so far. Today, I’m sharing my weekly planner spread for this week.  Last week, I experimented with watercolors on my planner pages and had an absolutely fun time with it.

I use a watercolor set by The Artists Loft. It’s a fairly inexpensive set that you can find at Michael’s. The paint didn’t bleed through the MAMBI Happy Planner pages, but you still need to be mindful of the amount of water you use. Too much water can crinkle the pages.

With that being said, I decided to incorporate watercolor onto my weekly planner spread this week.  I added some chevron print, a heart, some broad paint strokes, and some brush script (which I am currently practicing).    Weekly spread.

Left side of my weekly planner spread. (I think I will be using the left “Notes” panel for a weekly inspirational/motivational quote).
Right side of my weekly planner spread.

All-in-all, I had a good time and like the final results of this spread. It is definitely one I will be trying again in the future.  I’m definitely a beginner when it comes to watercolors, so it’s been fun learning the different ways to incorporate watercolors in my crafts.

Do you use watercolors in your crafting, or in your planner? If so, leave a comment below. I would love to see how you use them.

Weekly Planner Layout July 20-26, 2015

I am so excited about this weeks layout!  I have been using the Me and My Big Ideas Happy Planner for about a month now, and I am still enjoying it soooooo much!

This week, I decided to do things a little different. For the past month, I have stenciled my background and used my too cute Fashion Illustrated girls from Pinterest, but with this week being a special week, I decided to switch things up a bit……and I like it a lot!

Last week I stopped by Hobby Lobby and pick up the Julie Nutting Cling Stamps that they just started carrying. For the longest they only had three to choose from, now they added 4 more to the bunch, two boys and two girls. Can we say, “Yea Hobby Lobby!”  Yes, although I don’t have any boys, I just couldn’t help myself, I had to get all four as seen below!

I know you are probably wondering what these stamps have to do with this weeks planner spread….. Well, just look below to find out!  😀

Yes, I added one of the paper dolls, Keira to my planner spread.  As I stated earlier, this is a special week. Not only is it my birthday, but also my oldest DD as well. To celebrate the occasion, I came up with this spread. Elle helped with picking which doll she wanted as well as picking out the Scrapbooking paper for her outfit.  I thought we needed a little sparkle and we added our love of cupcakes and ice cream to finish things off.   I just love the way this layout came together!

See below to see some up close photos of the layout.

What fun and life are you bringing to your planner this week? I would love to see what you all are creating!  Until next time,

Happy Crafting!

Planner Update/Review

Hello, Hello, Hello!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. My DDs are back from their month long summer break with both sets of Grandparents, and we just about have everything back in order here on the home front. I wanted to give an update on my planner. As you all may know, I’m using the Happy Planner by Me & My Big Ideas (MAMBI) and honestly, I am truly loving it!  I love the space to write and decorate.  I also like the fact that I’m able to take my pages out in order to decorate them…as well as easily place them back into the planner. MAMBI has a ton of stickers, folders, page flags, and covers, to use to personalize and decorate the planner.

With that being said, I wanted to share my July Monthly Spread as well as my my layout for last week and this week.

Pictured Above:  Monthly Opener which gives you a breakdown of the month.

June 29 – July 5, 2015 Layout

July 6-12, 2015 Layout:  Hearts because my DH and I celebrated our 9 year Wedding Anniversary. 😀💕

July 13-19, 2015 Let the Summer fun with the girls begin!

The fashion illustration I use for my planner were all found on Pinterest. For My backgrounds I used Heidi Swapp stencils with Tim Holtz Distress Ink (no, I haven’t had any issues with the color bleeding through).  For all other stamping, I use Versa Magic Chalk Ink, again, I haven’t had any issues with the color bleeding through.

Again, I am truly enjoying this planner. I’m looking forward to adding a DIY Dashboard and Folder to this planner. I think I will have this one for a while! 😀.
I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions, please leave s comment below.

Happy Crafting!
