Chic Planning – February 13-19, 2017:  Hearts and Things

Hello Everyone!!!

I hope you all are doing well, since this is the week of love, hearts and xoxo’s, I naturally decided to do a simple, quick layout to fit he occasion….Valentine’s Day!  So let’s get started!

Here is the left side of my planner layout. I knew I didn’t want to go all pink and red overload with my layout so I picked a white, blue and gold foil Washi Tape. I also love the Gandhi quote at the bottom of the page. How fitting!

On the right side, I continued with the Washi Tape and added some additional love themed Washi. I also love the cross Washi at the top of the page. I was happy about finding some religious themed Washi at Michael’s.

I love the overall look of the layout and how it’s not to lovey…but just right. I think my unconventional blue heart theme worked out great and all the stickers tied the theme together nicely.

I also wanted to quickly share with you all my full February monthly spread….now that we are in the middle of the month.  Sorry!  But here it goes:

So much love is in this layout!  The girl holding the heart is beyond perfect to me for the month of February!  I found her on Pinterest. All the paw prints are school related things. We are the Tigers!  LOL. I also tried something new with my splashes and blots of watercolor. I actually like the watercolor effects a lot and hope to do them again in the future.

Well, that is it for today. Until next time,

Happy Planning!

Chic Planning:  January 23-29, 2017 So Soft and Lovely

Hello Everyone!

Today I will be sharing my planner layout for the week. This time, I wanted to use some of my new Washi Tape and planner stickers by Recollections as well as use some of the new Jane Davenport items which have quickly become my favorite. So let’s get started!

Here on the left side of my layout, I used a one of the beautiful faces stamps by Jane. I tried to make an afro for her hair. I used the Jane Davenport Mermaid Markers to paint her Afro and to color in the stamped image.

Here on the right side, I just continue with the Washi Tape, stickers and stamps.

Pictured above is the completed layout along with some of the products I used minus the stamps and the mask.

I love the softness of this layout. I think the flower mask that I used for the background tied the entire look together nicely with the other stickers and the girl. I also made sure to keep the layout nice and soft by using a Momentous London Fog ink for the stamped images in the previous photo versus black ink.   That is it for today. Until next time,

Happy Planning!

Chic Planning:  January 16-22, 2017  Plan with Me – It’s Jane Darling

Hello Everyone!

I’m so excited to finally share this week’s layout with you all, so let’s get started!

First things first…when I was thinking about this week and what I wanted to do, one thing was for sure, I knew I wanted to use some of my new Jane Davenport items. I can’t stress enough how beautiful the collection really is!  So I grabbed the paper pack along with my pencil pouch where my Mermaid Markers are housed.

After going through the paper pack I decided to cut this beauty out so I could use her on my layout.

The first thing I did was color each individual square. I used one color at a time.  So like with the Beach Mermaid Marker, I added a little color to each square and then moved on to the next color and so on and so fourth. Next, I glued down the girl that I cut out from the paper pack and finally I added some Washi Tape to the layout.

At this point my layout was basically finished. Now it was time for me to add my stamps and stickers so I could plan for my week.

Here on the left side of my layout, I added my gym time and parts of the girls dance schedules. Also the girls started selling Girl Scout Cookies this week, so I used one of my Girl Scouts DIY stickers on the layout.

Here on the right side, I continued with gym and dance classs and more Girl Scouts things.

At this point I am completely finish and ready to add my weekly to-do’s and appointments to my schedule. I also added a flag sticker from Hobby Lobby to commentate the Inauguration of our 45th President here in the United States.

Here is another look at the completed workout before the pen. When using the Mermaid Markers, my pages did buckle a little bit, but after being put in my planner they are now laying flat. There was also some bleed through – not too much, but there was some. For me, this doesn’t bother me because it will just add a little extra to next week’s layout.

In stamping this layout I used Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black, I also outlined the the calendar portion of the layout. I think the black outlining of the squares as well as the stamped images helped to draw the eye to the center as well as make the planning for the week stand out. Overall, I’m enjoying the vibrancy of this layout. It is very colorful and happy which is what I wanted!  I hope you all enjoyed this Plan with Me Post.  Until next time,

Happy Planning!

Jane Davenport Collection Haul and Review

Hello Everyone!!!!!

If you’ve been to Michael’s these past few weeks and online, I’m sure you all have seen the new Jane Davenport Collection which is at Michael’s.

The collection at my local Michael’s just hours after they put it out this past Friday!

As for me, I was beyond excited about her collection!  I’ve been following Jane for about a year and a half now. Her Mixed Media art is absolutely amazing and inspiring!

So let’s get started so I can show you all what I purchased!

Here, I have some of her faces stamps, a stencil, some Washi Tape, awesome Mermaid Markers, the Inkredible Pen, and the Butterfly Book (her version of the travelers notebook).

Here is one of the Washi Tapes up close.

Here is the butterfly book. I have it fully open so you can see the front and back covers of the book. It is made from canvas and features Jane’s amazing work.

Above is a paper pack and pencil pouch.

Here is a second Washi Tape set as well as the Paint Over Pens.  These markers have an opaque finishing.

And last, we have the Creative Journal and extra sheets of watercolor paper.

Over the weekend I was able to play a little with the collection. Here is the first page in the insert for the butterfly book. I was working on adding swatches for the Mermaid Markers.

Tomorrow, I will be sharing my planner layout for this week where I used one of the sheets from the paper pad and the Mermaid Markers to decorate my layout.

Here is how I used one of the faces stamps (only her eyes/nose and lips are featured on the stamp itself) and the floral stencil. I used the Mermaid Markers to add color to my background and the face.

I must say like the artist herself, this collection is amazing and inspiring. It is a collection that makes you happy. A collection that makes you want to create.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and I look forward to sharing my work with you all.

Happy Crafting!

Mixed Media Artwork Tutorial:  Open Your Heart and Mind

Hello and Happy Monday!

This weekend I had a chance to really sit down and have some playtime in the studio. For me being creative is a type of lifeline. It keeps me sane, helps me clear my mind and helps me relieve the stresses of everyday life. This weekend, playtime is exactly what I needed as we begin to close out the busy summer and prepare for back-to-school.

So today, I wanted to share the piece I worked on this weekend in the form of a mixed media tutorial. So let’s get started!

First, I went through my bowl of trinkets to select some goodies for this project.

I selected two brads, a large vintage key, a bow and a Heidi Swapp Flower. I also pulled out some hemp, a Heidi Swapp Canvas Heart and some tissue wrap. I will be using Recollections Heavy White Cardstock, cut down to 3×5 (index card size).

First things first, I adhered the tissue wrap to the cardstock with the use of Collage Pauge

Next, I inked the entire card with Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Wild Honey

Then, I pulled out Walnut Stain Distress Ink to darken the edges of my card.

After looking my card over, I thought it would been good to add a hint of blue to the card with Broken China Distress Ink

Pictured above you can see the hints of blue on the card.

Now, I will be inking the edges of the heart with Ranger Archival Ink – Jet Black

Next, add stamped images to the canvas heart.

And once again I inked the edges of the heart, except this time I used Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen Big Brush

Remove the backing from the back of the heart. Use Tacky Glue to add the heart to the cardstock.

I also used the Tacky Glue to adhere the vintage key to the heart.

While the key is drying, now is a good time to add some Color Shine to my flower.

Above is the finished flower.

With the use of a paper piercer, I pierced two holes for my brads.

Next, I grabbed some white acrylic paint and cut a piece of hemp.

With a dab of paint and a quick spray of water (to thin out the paint), blend (with finger), and rub the hemp in the paint making sure to cover both sides.

Next, wrap the hemp around your fingers to make a few loops and tie each end together.

Use Ranger Archival Ink to further ink the edges of the card.

Place the hemp in the desired spot and glue it down with a Hot Glue Gun

Place the Color Shine Flower on top of the hemp, again with hot glue.

Next, I selected a phrase from this Cosmo Cricket Tiny Text set. I inked the edges with a Faber-Castellated PITT Artist Pen Big Brush and added it to my card with Tacky Glue

Lastly I finished the piece with a few tiny pearl embellishments.

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial. Until next time,

Happy Crafting!

DIY Mixed Media Embellishments Tutorial

Hello Everyone!!!!

If you follow me on Instagram, yesterday I posted some DIY Embellishments and I wanted to share a tutorial on how to make them with you all today.

If you’re wondering how I found thes embellishments, here’s the story.  On Monday, I stumbled across Inkie Quill’s YouTube Channel and viewed a Grab 5 video where she made these embellishments for a layout she was working on. Unpopular viewing the video, I knew I had to make these embellishments for myself!  So let’s get started!

Minus the Glitter Gold Cardstock from Michael’s, here are the supplies I used.

First, I started off with 2 pieces of white 110lbs heavy cardstock by Recollections at Michael’s…these were from my stash. I covered each strip with White Gesso.

Next, I selected some of my favorite Faber-Castell Gelatos (Cotton Candy, Banana, Bubble Gum, and Margerita Mix), and a Metallic Purple Alex Brand Creamy Crayon. I randomly rubbed each color across each strip of paper.

To give the gelatos and crazy crayons this effect, I simply just added water with the use of my paintbrush.  This looks much better than before right?!?

Now for the fun part, I grabbed 6 punches (3 circle punches, 2 flag/banner punches and 1 mini heart punch) and started punching away.

I was able to punch out this much with just those two strips. I punched out the larger shapes first and with the scrap paper, I used the mini heart and mini circle punch to ensure I used up as much of the strips as possible.

With some Recollections Glitter paper, I used the large and medium sized flag/banner and the circle punches and just punched out a portion of the shape.

With the use of one of my favorite adhesives, Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue, I glued the glitter pieces of cardstock to my oh so colorful shapes.  This created a dipped glitter effect without all the mess and fuss.

I had so much fun making these embellishments and I can’t wait to use them in a Scrapbooking layout, in my planner as well as in my Project Life Album.

Here are some completely finished and ready to use embellishments which I will be using in the very near future!

If you want an audio walk through of this tutorial please visit Inkie Quill’s YouTube Channel. She has a ton of awesome videos, also feel free to follow me on Instagram as well.

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial!

Chic Planning: May Monthly Layout

Hello Everyone!

Today I’ll be sharing my May Monthly Layout along with this week’s layout.

For the May Monthly Spread I didn’t go with a particular theme, I just went with what I was feeling at the time.

Since this is the last full month of school, I decided to put these color pencil post-it’s from the Target Dollar Spot along the bottom of the layout.  In order to make sure the last three days of the month were accounted for, I added them onto the post-it’s with Some Tim Holtz Label Letter Stickers. The triangle background is from a Heidi Swapp Stencil.

On the right side, I continued with bob the color pencils along the bottom of the layout and the triangle background. On this end I added some washi tap on top of the color pencil post-it’s.

Materials Used: Stamp Sets – Studio g, Stampabilities Eat Drink Be Merry, Hero Arts Clearly Kelly Kelly’s Best Day Ever and Kelly’s Coffee and Donuts; the Paper Studio Washi Tape, Color Pencil Post-Its from Target Dollar Spot; Heidi Swapp Stencil and Sticker Set; Tim Holtz idea-ology Label Letters; Sn@p! by Simple Stories Calender Stickers; Becky Higgins Project Life Rub-On Transfer Sheet; the Paper Studio Inspirational Phrases Gold Foil Sticker Set

I’m totally loving the look and feel of this layout and I love the splash of color that the color pencils add.

Until next time, Happy Planning!
